SUPERIOR FEATURES OF XPS
• Low thermal conductivity value.
• Continuous and non-decreasing λ- thermal conductivity value thanks to its water-absorbing feature.
• Resistance to frost.
• Its thickness does not decrease over time thanks to its high compression and bending strength.
• High modulus of elasticity and dimensional stability.
• Suitable μ value for its place of use thanks to its optimum vapor diffusion resistance.
• XPS products can be recycled without being mixed with other plastics.
• It can be cut with any type of cutting tool, does not crumble or waste.
• It has a closed-pore cell structure.
XPS HISTORY
The first Extruded Polystyrene Foam was produced in the early 1940s in America for floating rafts upon military demand. As a result of intensive use, it was realized that these products, which were highly resistant to water and moisture, also had thermal insulation technical properties and their production continued for thermal insulation purposes. Extruded Polystyrene Foams, which were started to be produced in Europe in the 1960s, have been used safely in all buildings and engineering structures for over 50 years. Today, the use of Extruded Polystyrene Foams worldwide is around 15-20 million m3 / year. Domestic production in Turkey started in 1994. While the total production was 700,000 m3 / year in 2005, it was over 1,600,000 m3 / year in 2008. In parallel with the growth in the construction sector, the market growth is approximately 15-20% per year. The market size in 2012 is approximately over 3 million m3.
HOW IS XPS PRODUCED
They are foam materials with homogeneous cell structure, produced and used for thermal insulation. XPS raw material polystyrene is produced as foam under constant pressure by means of a continuous extrusion process with the help of a blowing agent. The product, which is turned into a sheet with a closed cell structure, is subjected to surface treatment in accordance with the place of use. It allows changes in XPS product properties to meet various application requirements with the variation of process parameters during production. Foam density (20-50 kg/m3) and compressive strength values (100-500 kPa) can be obtained. Thermal conductivity calculation value is produced in 0.030-0.035-0.040 groups.
XPS QUALITY
In the construction sector in the European Community, according to CPD (Construction Product Directive) and in Turkey, according to the Construction Materials Regulation, XPS thermal insulation boards used in the construction sector must carry the CE mark. The CE marking must be applied by the manufacturer to meet the requirements for initial type testing (ITT) and factory production control (FPC) with the product test frequencies specified in accordance with TS EN 13164. CE Procedure and XPS product labeling According to EN 13164, the CE marking is placed on labels on XPS thermal insulation boards or packaging. Mandatory marking includes the following data: product name, manufacturer, year of production, fire reaction class, length, width, thickness, thermal conductivity and thermal resistance values. The identification key reports further product features. This identification key must contain all product features required for the various applications of the relevant product. According to the European product standard EN 13164, the following definitions must be used. XPS – EN 13164-T1-CS (10 Y) 300-DS (TH)-DLT (2) 5-CC (2/1, 5/50) 100-WD (V) 3-FT2

Quality assurance: Internal self-control
XPS Thermal Insulation Manufacturers Association EN13164 carries out self-control with an internal production control called quality control or quality assurance of its members, and
forces manufacturers to ensure that the product complies with the EN Standard. It aims to prepare manufacturers for the Market Surveillance Inspection applications of the relevant Ministry by analyzing the product performance tests of manufacturers and controlling the declared values. The association aims to prevent unfair competition with this method.
